Am I the only one who’s been experiencing a broken Google Reader lately in Firefox? At first I related the problem to the Stylish updates, and the use of Jon Hicks’ excellent OSx Style, but after disabling both the plugin and both parts of the style the problem is still apparent. For the time being I’m laying most of the blame on Google Gears, but uninstalling the extension has done nothing at all.

Here’s what I see in Firefox:

And in Internet Explorer:

Google Reader in IE

If anyone has any idea what’s going on, please clue me in. I’d have to have to continue using Internet Explorer to check my feeds. I’ve tried everything from disabling individual Stylish styles, to disabling stylish all together, and I’ve even gone as far as to disable Google Gears. Please help me find the problem.

Wow, I’m not the only one who’s having this problem. I’m also using latest firefox with Google gear and all of the sudden, my google reader not responding to anything.

When I take a look at “error console” from firefox, I see “Error: _FR_scrollMain is not defined” in google reader source… Do you get the same thing?

Brian: my problem actually magically resolved itself the other night and all is working well again, albeit a little slow. You may want to try it again and see if it’s still not working.

I think it may have something to do with all the changes Google has been making to their markup, but I could be wrong.

Ja – I’m also having the same issue – not magically resolved as yet…

I’m having the same problem. Did anyone find a solution to the problem or not.

Please let me know by emailing me at pali dot madra at the rate gmail dot com.

    Hey! I found a solution.

You need to go to the options in the menu for Firefox.

Once the options pop-up comes up select the Privacy tab and in the ‘Private data’ section click the ‘clear now’ button (the last button in the privacy tab).

In the new pop-up select the check boxes next to Cache and Authenticated Sessions and click on the ‘clear private data’ button.

Close all the windows and pop-up and restart Firefox. Start Firefox again and you should be able to access Google Reader.

It did not work for me the first time around but when I ran through the steps again it worked!

Let me know if it does not work for you.

I would definitely like to know why this happens. Seems like the cache or cookies used by Google Reader are faulty or is it something else?

Nope, doesn’t work for me. also tried IE7, same errors.

  12. Hi

    I’m having the problem periodically.

I’ve also tried diabling all related plugins (Better Greader and Stylish and GreaseMonky), without any success. Sometimes a reload of google reader helps, sometimes it helps waiting some hours.
I visit other pages, where I deffinitely don’t use style scripts and they too sometimes and only sometimes render strange like if Firefox doesn’t know how to parse css or page layout.

Could it be a bug in Firefox?

  13. Kevin says:

Just as a quick notice, I haven’t had this problem in many months, actually since the original article was posted here. It’s hard to believe these problems haven’t been resolved yet though.

My Google reader is not responding today either

I had the same problem, I restarted my PC and all of a sudden Reader didn’t work, but worked on IE7. Fixed with Pali Madra’s solution thanks ;)
